01 November – 31 March

The green season – also known as the wet season – begins in November and spans all the way through to the end of March. Hot and humid hours make up the day that culminates with brief, but magnificent afternoon thunderstorms. Lighting up the skies above, the thunderstorms above Lake Kariba create an exhilarating show of light and loud-clapping thunder.  Between the showers and storms, are hot and bright spells of sunshine, which often delight our Northern Hemisphere guests.

What to do:

A combination of rain and warm weather, create an idyllic environment for surrounding flora to blossom. As the bush thickens, you might have to look a little closer to spot some of the camouflaged wildlife but rest assured, there will still be lots of wild animals to spot on your safaris. During these months the game birth their young – while food is abundant for them –  which is a magical site to see in itself, not to mention the array of newly attracted predators.

Seasonal information:

The season is also possibly one of the best seasons for birding as the birdlife and waterfowl are prolific, while busy breeding and nesting. The arrival of the rains brings a flurry of insects and wildflowers while offering some of the most vibrant photographic opportunities as a result of less dust in the air.

01 April – 30 June

From April until the end of June, a mild and dry winter is welcomed. Days are warm, clear, bright and beautiful and the nights are cooler with little to no chance of rain. The bush and plains in Mautusadona National Park start to dry up in these months, and plains game begin to gather around Lake Kariba’s shores to enjoy the greener grass and refreshing waters. This, in turn, attracts the local predators, making for exciting scenes to witness around the camp, on game drives, walks and boat cruises.
